GOP Scrambles to Condemn Rancher's Remarks on Race
By Carrie Dann

Offering words of encouragement for a rancher leading an armed standoff against federal rangers turns out to be not so great of a political move especially when the rancher in question muses publicly about the benefits of slavery.

Republicans including possible 2016 candidate Rand Paul -- are scrambling to distance themselves from defiant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after he made startling comments about slavery and African-Americans in a New York Times article published Wednesday night.

From the Times Adam Nagourney:

I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didnt have nothing to do. They didnt have nothing for their kids to do. They didnt have nothing for their young girls to do.

And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they b .. . . . . . . .

What you won't read in the papers about the Central Park Five

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is demanding a quick settlement of the lawsuit brought by the five men convicted of one of the most sickening crimes in the citys history: the attack on the Central Park jogger in 1989.

The plaintiffs are demanding $50 million apiece for going to prison for a rape that they committed, as detailed in Chapter 13 of Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Destroying America. Abner Louima got $5.8 million for a shockingly brutal police assault on him, and he was just an innocent bystander.

The Central Park Five, as PBS documentarian Ken Burns has dubbed them, arent exactly Emmett Till (as Burns would have you believe). Even if they were innocent of the Central Park rape, which they arent, the reason they were originally arrested was that they were rampaging through the park, assaulting people.

Even after they began denying the rape, the defendants continued to admit committing these other attacks. Howd you like to be one of the people badly beaten in the park that night watching your tax dollars go to pay your assailants millions of dollars?

All those convictions on the rape as well as the assaults have been vacated because an aging district attorney wanted a glowing obituary in the New York Times.

In 2002, the ancient Robert Morgenthau, Manhattan district attorney, issued a report recommending that the convictions in the Central Park rape case be vacated. Justice Charles Tejada (Fordham Law 2009 Hispanic Heritage Award winner!) granted his .. . . . . . . .

Politics 101: Its generally a good idea to refrain from referring to your political opponents as NAZIS. Politics 201: NEVER compare conservative blacks to Jews who collaborated with the Nazis in WWII.

Illinois Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn has some splainin to do to the Jewish community and the black community after his campaign tweeted - and then deleted several messages urging backers to read an article comparing black Republican voters to Jews who collaborated with the Nazis:

Chicago Sun Times readers were stunned last week to find that writer Neil Steinberg has penned a column comparing black supporters of Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner to Jews who collaborated with the Nazis against their brethren.

As a general rule, individuals will sell out the interests of their groups in return for personal benefit, Steinberg wrote in his column, which claimed that Rauner is buying off the black community and its leaders.

It isnt just a black thing. Jews collaborated with the Nazis during World War II, helping them to round up their own people in the hopes theyd be the last to go.

Governor, Im no campaign manager, but really? Dude, Democrats are already in bad enough shape heading into the November elections. Obviously, your campaign staff wants to make sure that you dont have to wait up all night for the results.

Recognizing danger, GOP engages with Democrats in battle for women voters

As the Democratic Party implements its "War on Women" campaign against the Republicans in the hopes of mobilizing female voters and heading off a midterm elections defeat, the GOP is fighting back.

In doing so, Republicans on Capitol Hill and GOP candidates running in key congressional races are acknowledging the potency of the Democrats' 2014 strategy. The Republicans are belatedly conceding that simply trotting out GOP women in front of the cameras, in a bid to prove that a party that eagerly elects women to high office couldn't possibly be anti-women, has been ineffective in rebutting the line of attack.

The television ad launched this week by the presumptive Republican Senate nominee in Michigan, Terri Lynn Land, is the most blatant example of the GOP's admission of its vulnerable position with female voters, a key voting bloc that pulls the lever in greater percentages than men, who still generally favor conservatives. Land's ad suggests that it's the height of ridiculousness for her male opponent, Rep. Gary Peters, D-Mich., to paint her as waging a war on women.

Strategically, it's a smart move by Land, a former Michigan secretary of state, in her bid to become the first Republican elected to the Senate from the Wolverine State since 1996. But that she had to run this television spot at all is indicative of the Republican Party's predicament.

Congressman .. . . . . . . .

U.S. Sends Airborne Infantry to Russian Front Door (600 boots on the ground!)

Roughly 600 infantry troops from the storied 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team are heading to Poland and the three Baltic states, in the first major movement of U.S. ground troops to Europe since Russias incursion into Ukraine earlier this year.

Four companies of roughly 150 soldiers each will head to Poland, as well as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and stay for roughly a month, said Pentagon spokesman Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby. The forces will be relieved by future rotations of airborne infantry troops through at least the end of 2014, if not beyond. Twelve F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and a support staff of roughly 200 people was sent to Poland earlier this year.

Soldiers from the 173rd, based out of Vicenza, Italy, witnessed some of the harshest combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The gritty actions of its 2nd Battalion in the Korengal Valley were documented in the 2010 documentary, Restrepo. They will be engaged in infantry training exercises, with troops from the four countries, all NATO treaty signatories, according to Kirby.

The Pentagons decision is more than just a gesture to reaffirm solidarity with its NATO allies, Kirby said.

Any time you put troops on the ground ... its more than just [symbolism], he said.

The USS Taylor will also steam into the Black Sea, where the USS Donald Cook remains. The Taylor had been there in February during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and had to be retrofitted in a Turkish port after running aground. The D .. . . . . . . .
